Jaza is a solar energy start-up working to power Sub-Saharan Africa. We build solar-powered shops which charge batteries customers use to power their homes. In 2022, we achieved over 1.5 million battery swaps, providing approximately 186,000 people access to clean, affordable energy. We employ women from each community (known as Jaza Stars) to run the service, empowering our team to become leaders, entrepreneurs and drivers of economic growth within their communities. We’ve already successfully entered the Nigerian market, piloted several sites here and will grow to hundreds of locations over the next year. To support this expansion, we’re planning to hire over 200 people over the next 6 months.

  • The Solar Installation Engineer is the owner of the technical operations involved in the installation and maintenance at various sites.
  • This position reports to the Regional Service Engineer and works to ensure that our service locations have commissioning and installation of solar technical equipment completed to the pre-defined standards.
  • Own the technical installation and maintenance process for our service locations by ensuring 100% compliance with the commissioning process.
  • Own and manage all tech activities, equipment and tools used in the commissioning process for new sites.
  • Own and audit the work completion per allocated site according to defined standards.
  • Prepare a predeparture checklist of required items, tools and technical equipment for the commissioning of allocated sites.
  • Commission, install and maintain solar technical equipment at allocated sites by ensuring that all set processes according to the commissioning guidelines and documentations are accurately done and completed.
  • Ensure proper set up of new sites in the Star App, Dashboard and Dataverse before handing the site over to the regional tech.
  • Accurately file, respond to, update, and escalate technical issues in Gitlab.
  • Remotely troubleshoot and resolve Hub performance issues pre-golive. Travel to Hubs to resolve issues requiring in-person troubleshooting/repairs, for sites still under Expansion. 
  • Ensure availability of working Jaza packs for Go-live by checking charge rate.
  • Ensure 100% connectivity at new sites and zero downtimes at all Hubs.
  • Keep accurate records of Hub/Shop Equipment and product component inventory during the commissioning phase.
  • Test new products and firmware as needed. 
  • Work effectively with regional tech, supply chain, and other construction teams, ensuring seamless integration between different parts of the project.
  • Document and report milestones reached during this process. 
  • Background in Electrical / Electronics or any related field.
