Qualifications and Requirements
- To provide financial oversight, guidance, and accountability for the NHF and ECHO nutrition projects, ensuring that resources are efficiently managed, documented, and reported in line with GHIV Africa and donor financial policies.
- The Finance Officer will contribute directly to the efficiency, transparency, and accountability of the NHF and ECHO nutrition projects.
- Proper financial management will ensure uninterrupted program delivery, compliance with donor requirements, and effective use of resources to improve nutritional outcomes for vulnerable children and households.
- Support day-to-day financial operations of the project across assigned LGAs.
- Process payments, advances, and retirements in line with organizational policies.
- Maintain accurate financial records, including vouchers, receipts, and supporting documents.
- Ensure all financial transactions are properly documented and filed for audit purposes.
- Monitor project expenditures and ensure alignment with approved budgets.
- Prepare and review payment schedules for vendors, staff, and community activities.
- Support bank transactions, reconciliations, and cash management activities.
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements and internal financial controls.
- Support the preparation of project budgets and budget revisions.
- Track expenditures against budgets and provide variance analysis.
- Provide financial input into project planning and implementation.
- Prepare and submit monthly financial reports to the Finance Manager.
- Support preparation of donor financial reports in line with reporting timelines.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of all financial data reported.
- Manage cash disbursement and ensure proper authorization of transactions.
- Conduct regular cash counts and maintain cashbooks.
- Prepare bank reconciliation statements on a monthly basis.
- Ensure adherence to GHIV Africa financial policies and procedures.
- Support internal and external audit processes.
- Ensure all financial documentation is audit-ready and properly archived.
- Provide financial guidance to field staff and programme teams.
- Support field activities by ensuring timely disbursement of funds.
- Liaise with programme teams to ensure proper financial planning and execution.
- Support training of staff on financial procedures and documentation.
- Provide guidance on proper retirement of advances and expense reporting.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Finance Manager to support project implementation.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2–3 years’ experience in financial management, preferably in NGO/humanitarian settings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
- Strong knowledge of financial controls and donor compliance requirements.
- High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced humanitarian environment.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial policies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with electronic financial management systems and data collection tools.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of relevant local languages is an advantage.
- Previous experience working in the BAY states (Borno, Adamawa, Yobe).
- Familiarity with NGO or donor financial reporting requirements (ECHO, NHF, etc.).
