Role Overview

  • The Audit & Tax Officer will support the execution of audit assignments, tax compliance activities, and financial reporting tasks. The ideal candidate should have 3 - 5 years' experience in audit, taxation, accounting, or internal controls, gained either in an accounting firm or within the finance/audit department of a corporate organisation. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of IFRS and Nigerian tax laws.

Key Responsibilities

Audit Support

  • Assist in planning and executing statutory and internal audits.
  • Prepare audit working papers and ensure proper documentation.
  • Perform substantive testing, control testing, and analytical procedures.
  • Identify audit issues and draft preliminary audit findings.
  • Support the preparation of audited financial statements.

Tax Compliance

  • Prepare tax computations (CIT, VAT, WHT, PAYE, etc.).
  • Assist with timely filing of statutory taxes.
  • Maintain accurate tax records and documentation.
  • Support in responding to FIRS/LIRS queries and tax audits.
  • Research tax legislation and provide updates to the team.

Financial Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements in line with IFRS.
  • Support monthly and annual closing processes.
  • Help in analysing financial data and identifying discrepancies.

Internal Controls & Advisory

  • Evaluate business processes and recommend control improvements.
  • Participate in risk assessments and process reviews.
  • Support client or internal stakeholder engagements as assigned.

Team & Client Support

  • Work collaboratively with audit and tax teams to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain positive communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Assist in preparing presentations, reports, and technical documentation.

RequirementsEducation & Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • ICAN certification is mandatory (or in final stages).
  • CITN/ACCA is an added advantage.

Experience

  • 3 - 5 years' experience in audit, tax, accounting, or internal controls (experience may be from audit firms or corporate organizations).
  • Strong understanding of IFRS and Nigerian tax regulations.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and tax computations.
