The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and supporting management with reliable financial information for decision-making.
The role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, hands-on experience, and the ability to supervise junior finance staff.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts in line with IFRS.
Ensure timely and accurate posting of transactions in the general ledger.
Review and reconcile balance sheet and profit & loss accounts
Maintain proper accounting records and supporting schedules.
Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes
Monitor budget performance and prepare variance analysis.
Provide insights on cost control and revenue performance.
Ensure compliance with Nigerian tax laws (CIT, VAT, WHT, PAYE)
Coordinate preparation and filing of statutory returns.
Liaise with tax consultants, auditors, and regulatory bodies (FIRS, State IRS).
Support external audits and respond to audit queries.
Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets.
Review accounting processes and recommend improvements.
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
Supervise and review work of junior accountants.
Provide guidance and on-the-job training to finance team members.
Work closely with operations, procurement, HR, and business units.
Work with ERP/accounting systems (knowledge of SAP S4 HANA software will be an advantage)
Ensure data integrity and accuracy within financial systems.
Support system upgrades or finance-related implementations where required
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
ICAN/ACCA Certification
Experience in oil & gas industry is an advantage. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP, or QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
Strong knowledge of IFRS and Nigerian tax regulations
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced level preferred).
Hands-on experience with SAP S4HANA SOFTWARE .
Strong financial analysis and reporting skills.
Strong understanding of vendor invoicing, purchase order matching, and accounts payable procedures.
Familiarity with Nigerian tax and financial reporting standards
