The Fleet Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day management, maintenance scheduling, and regulatory compliance of the organization's vehicle fleet.
This role is central to ensuring operational continuity, driver accountability, and cost control across the fleet function.
The successful candidate will combine strong administrative discipline with a practical understanding of vehicle management and logistics operations.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain accurate and up to date records of all fleet vehicles, including documentation, licensing, and insurance status.
Schedule and monitor routine vehicle maintenance and service to minimize downtime.
Track fuel consumption and vehicle utilization to identify cost-saving opportunities.
Coordinate driver assignments, schedules, and adherence to route plans.
Ensure all fleet vehicles and drivers comply with relevant regulatory, safety, and company policy requirements.
Investigate and document incidents, accidents, or vehicle faults, escalating as required.
Liaise with mechanics, vendors, and service providers to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs.
Prepare periodic fleet performance and cost reports for management review.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
Bachelor's Degree or HND in Logistics, Transport Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
2 - 4 years' experience managing a fleet of ten or more commercial vehicles Experience with GPS tracking or telematics systems.
Working knowledge of vehicle maintenance scheduling and fleet management software.
Familiarity with relevant road transport regulations and documentation requirements.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking and reporting.
Strong organizational and record-keeping discipline.
Sound judgement in managing driver conduct and resolving operational issues.
Effective communication skills for liaising with drivers, vendors, and management.
Ability to remain calm and decisive when responding to incidents.
