Job Summary
The Water Plant Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the water treatment facilities (including Purified Water, Reverse Osmosis, Deionization, and Water for Injection systems) at the Sagar manufacturing plant in Sagamu.
This role ensures the continuous supply of safe, high-purity water required for pharmaceutical production, cleaning processes, and facility utility operations in compliance with cGMP, NAFDAC, and WHO guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Water System Operations: Operate and monitor the daily performance of water treatment plant equipment, including raw water pre-treatment, multimedia filters, softeners, Reverse Osmosis (RO) units, Electro-deionization (EDI) systems, and UV sterilizers.
Sampling & Routine Quality Checks: Conduct hourly and daily routine checks of key parameters such as conductivity, pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), silica, temperature, flow rates, and differential pressures; log all readings accurately.
Regeneration & Sanitization: Perform periodic chemical regeneration of water softeners/resin beds and routine chemical or thermal sanitization of distribution loops and storage tanks to prevent microbial contamination.
Routine Equipment Maintenance: Clean, inspect, and perform minor repairs or preventive servicing on dosing pumps, valves, pressure gauges, pipes, and filter cartridges.
Troubleshooting & Escalation: Identify operational abnormalities, leaks, membrane fouling, or water parameter deviations; troubleshoot minor mechanical/electrical faults and report major issues to the Utility Manager or Supervisor.
Documentation & Audit Compliance: Maintain comprehensive, auditable daily water plant logbooks, equipment log sheets, and sanitization records in line with cGMP and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
Chemical Handling & Safety: Maintain safe inventory and handling practices for water treatment chemicals (e.g., antiscalants, chlorine, acids, bases) while adhering to factory EHS and PPE protocols.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Technical Diploma (OND/HND), Vocational Trade Test, or B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Science Laboratory Technology, Chemistry, or a related field.
Experience: 2 - 4+ years of practical experience operating pharmaceutical, food processing, or industrial water treatment and purification plants.
Technical Knowledge: Understanding of Reverse Osmosis (RO), Electro-deionization (EDI), ion exchange, dosing pumps, and purified water distribution networks.
Core Competencies: Strong record-keeping ability, physical stamina, basic analytical testing skills, and compliance with strict sanitary protocols.
