Job Description

  • You will manage and execute running 'day-to-day' Maintenance and Repair (M&R) activities of vessels assigned to you within the time frame and budget as set, in order to maintain technical reliability and maximize utilization of the fleet.

Your Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and execute 'day-to-day' running maintenance activities (mainly preventive) onboard the vessels to maintain the technical reliability of vessels and prevent downtime/off-hire.
  • Supervise, coach, and instruct chief engineers onboard the vessels to ensure technical management onboard is in line with the company expectation
  • Execute repairs, supervise crew and subcontractors in line with the agreed planning, budget and quality standards.
  • Take responsibility for the correct allocation of costs related to the vessel's repair and maintenance, dockings, damages and modifications.
  • Guides crew on board the vessels to ensure the Company standards are met, and work is done as per guidelines and specifications
  • Actively promotes Safety Health, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) awareness and monitors performance to ensure safety standards and safe working practices / leads by example.
  • Interface with Regulatory Authorities & Stakeholders, i.e. Classification Society & Flag State, on technical integrity of vessels whilst maintaining cordial relationship with stakeholders.

Requirements

To fulfil the position of Technical Superintendent, Nigeria, you are in possession of:

  • Experience as a technical superintendent or technical manager in a similar environment/company.
  • At least higher / secondary vocational education in mechanical engineering, naval architecture or equivalent.
  • Experience as a former chief engineer on offshore support Vessels is preferred.
  • At least 7 years of verifiable experience gained as a technical superintendent/port engineer or technical manager.
  • Fluent command of the English language, spoken and written.

  • Your team: You will be part of the Fleet Management Department of AfrikDelta Marine Ltd, an operational unit fully controlled by Smit Lamnalco, which consists of approximately 10 professionals. You will report to the Regional Fleet Manager.
  • Where you will work: You will work in Onne (Port Harcourt) on a rotation of 8/8 weeks and may be required to travel occasionally.

Budget responsibility for technical elements of the assigned vessels. Responsible for overseeing the installation and certification of 3rd party equipment on the vessels, such as Diving, ROV and other temporary equipment. Liaise with Vessel Masters and Chief Engineers as required and providing technical advice and assistance when necessary. Identify and source for technical and operational supplies required for the vessels and ensure that the rates are most economical. Co-ordinate and supervise service repairs, utilizing approved sub-contractors as required and ensure all such repairs are completed in a timely and satisfactory manner and within the vessel's set operational budget. Prepare accurate and comprehensive vessel dry-dock specifications and to supervise dry-dockings and repairs to completion as directed. Dry dockings and repairs may take place at a location remote from normal place of work. Liaising with repair yard management, sub-contractors, Class and Administration to ensure all works are carried out in accordance with agreed specifications and time schedules. Providing written reports as required, detailing in service repairs dry-docking repairs and surveys, including costs incurred during such activities. Ensure all relevant information regarding a vessel repair / docking is updated in the PMS system. Liaise with customers on technical and operational matters including vessel performance. Liaise with the Purchasing department to ensure that purchase requisitions are being tracked and expedited in a timely manner. Report to Fleet Manager when delays have the potential to impact on vessels operational capabilities. Ensure minimum spare requirements are met. Perform monthly review of logs processes and attend to vessel inspections and submit reports. Responsible for the control and updating of the vessel Technical Library (ship's plans and drawings) as required. Ensure IMCA guidelines and "best industry practices" are adhered to at all times. Oversee and give input to prepare tender documents including establishing costs/budgets/programs and be part of subsequent bid/tender evaluations. Contribute to the appraisal and selection of repair yards and technical service providers. Carry out appraisals of Chief Engineers on board his vessel at end of their contract. Other: Maintain high technical knowledge and ensure personal development through training and self-development. Undertake any other Technical related assignments as and when required. Participate in annual review and evaluate projects to determine success and how improvements can be made in the future report and present findings. Minimum Qualifications Unlimited STCW '95 Chief Engineer's license (Motor) sea going vessels or Engineering Degree / Diploma in Mechanics / Electromechanical Engineering.
