Job Description

The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a proactive Research Assistant to support the implementation of the CIP led activities in Senegal of the upcoming HortiFuture project that is expected to start 1 October 2026.

Please note that this recruitment process is being initiated in anticipation of the formalization of the project. Any appointment will be subject to the formal approval and execution of the project, including confirmation of the corresponding funding.

About the role: The position will primarily focus on supporting the implementation of CIP-led potato activities providing analytical and experienced support to successfully deliver project activities and contribute to the publication of the research papers and activities reports. This position will be based in Dakar, Senegal and will report to Senior Principal Scientist.

Key responsibilities

Implement day-to-day assigned project activities with focus on potato seed systems and use of good agronomic practices, in collaboration with staff of other project partners organizations such as ISRA

Conduct, collect data, analyze and document experiment’s findings to contribute to the internal discussion and potential publication paper

Monitor assigned research and project activities in different settings to guarantee successful experiments implementation and execution

Support on administration and logistics operations to guarantee an effective supply chain for the projects’ needs

Conduct statistical research data analysis and drafting reports for review by supervisors

Support first level analysis of data to guarantee the results are accurate and complete

Provides professional guidance to technicians and students to contribute to their professional development within the organization

Contribute to preparation and conduct of training workshops for the project

Prepare and facilitate meetings with project stakeholders when needed within the project implementation scope

Produce activities reports and perform other project related activities that may be assigned by the supervisor

Comply with applicable health and safety CIP policies and procedures

Requirements

What are we looking for?

Education: Bachelor’s degree or Agricultural Engineer degree (with thesis completed) in Agronomy, Plant pathology, seed production, or related areas. Preferably with post graduate studies.

At least 3 years of experience required in similar positions.

Experience in seed production systems with experience in seed potato production systems an added advantage.

Experience in use of Good Agronomic Practices especially in potato production

Advanced level of MS Office and advanced knowledge of database work.

Experience in implementing agronomic field trials

Experience in experiments data collection and statistical analysis

Languages: Fluent in French and good written and spoken English.
