Job Summary

  • The Managing Director will provide strategic, operational, commercial, and technical leadership to the Company, with overall responsibility for driving sustainable business growth, profitability, operational excellence, and long-term value creation. The successful candidate will lead the Company's marine and engineering services operations, ensuring the effective delivery of offshore and onshore projects, marine support services, inspection services, installation, commissioning, and related engineering activities.
  • The Managing Director will be responsible for developing strategic partnerships, strengthening client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards, and building a high-performing organization.

Main Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement the Company's short, medium, and long-term strategic objectives in line with the vision and directives of the Board.
  • Identify new markets, business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and revenue streams within the marine, offshore, oil & gas, energy, and engineering sectors.
  • Provide strategic direction for the Company's marine and engineering services portfolio.
  • Establish clear business targets, performance indicators, budgets, and growth plans.
  • Monitor industry trends, market developments, competitor activities, and emerging technologies to maintain the Company's competitive position.
  • Advise the Board on business strategy, investments, capital expenditure, major contracts, and commercial opportunities.
  • Drive organizational transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Operations & Project Execution

  • Provide executive oversight of all marine, offshore, and onshore engineering projects.
  • Ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, within budget, to required quality standards, and within agreed schedules.
  • Oversee project planning, engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation, inspection, testing, commissioning, and handover activities.
  • Ensure effective coordination between engineering, project management, marine operations, HSE, procurement, finance, and commercial teams.
  • Review and approve major project execution strategies, methodologies, schedules, resource plans, and budgets.
  • Ensure effective management of vessels, marine assets, equipment, personnel, subcontractors, and other project resources.
  • Establish robust systems for project monitoring, cost control, risk management, quality assurance, and performance reporting.
  • Provide executive intervention and direction on critical project issues, delays, technical challenges, contractual matters, and client concerns.

Marine Services Management

  • Oversee the Company's marine operations and ensure safe, reliable, and commercially effective utilization of marine assets.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant marine, offshore, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain operational standards for vessel operations, marine logistics, offshore support, and related services.
  • Optimize vessel utilization, fleet performance, maintenance, and operational costs.
  • Ensure effective planning and coordination of marine activities supporting offshore and onshore projects.

Engineering, Inspection & Commissioning

  • Provide leadership and oversight for engineering and technical service delivery.
  • Ensure high standards in mechanical engineering, equipment installation, inspection, testing, commissioning, and maintenance activities.
  • Oversee inspection services, integrity-related activities, equipment assessment, and technical assurance where applicable.
  • Ensure that engineering solutions comply with applicable technical specifications, codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Promote the use of appropriate technology, engineering methodologies, and industry best practices.

Business Development & Commercial Management

  • Develop and execute the Company's business development and commercial strategy.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with major clients, government agencies, industry partners, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead or participate in negotiations for major contracts, strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and framework agreements.
  • Identify and pursue tenders, EPC/EPCI opportunities, marine service contracts, inspection contracts, installation and commissioning projects, and other relevant opportunities.
  • Ensure that bids and proposals are commercially competitive while protecting the Company's margins and contractual interests.
  • Monitor contract performance, variations, claims, receivables, and commercial risks.
  • Develop strategic relationships with local and international companies to enhance the Company's capabilities and market reach.

Financial Management

  • Take overall responsibility for the Company's financial performance and profitability.
  • Develop and manage annual operating and capital expenditure budgets.
  • Ensure submission of services invoices to client as and when due.
  • Follow up on client accounts and associated payments, with positive and decisive action expected when STMNL encounters client payment delays.
  • Monitor and effectively manage available cash to support the company's operations and finance ongoing projects.
  • Monitor revenue, gross margins, operating costs, cash flow, working capital, and profitability.
  • Ensure effective cost control across projects and corporate operations.
  • Review major investments, procurement decisions, contracts, and expenditures.
  • Work closely with the Finance function to ensure accurate financial reporting and forecasting.

HSE, Quality & Compliance

  • Establish and maintain a strong culture of Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Quality (HSSEQ).
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable statutory, regulatory, marine, environmental, and industry requirements.
  • Promote zero-incident and continuous-improvement objectives across all operations.
  • Ensure appropriate risk assessments, emergency preparedness, incident management, audits, and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Champion quality management and ensure consistent delivery in accordance with client specifications and applicable standards.

People & Organizational Leadership

  • Build, lead, motivate, and retain a high-performing management team.
  • Establish clear organizational structures, responsibilities, performance targets, and accountability.
  • Develop technical and leadership capabilities across the organization.
  • Identify succession requirements and support talent development.

Corporate Governance & Stakeholder Management

  • Maintain effective communication and reporting relationships with the Board of Directors.

  • Ensure compliance with corporate governance requirements and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Represent the Company at high-level industry, client, government, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Protect and enhance the Company's reputation, brand, and corporate relationships.

Educational Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related Engineering discipline.
  • MBA or Master's Degree in Business Administration, Management, Engineering Management, or a related discipline is highly advantageous.
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience, with significant experience in senior management roles.
  • Demonstrable experience within the marine, offshore, oil & gas, energy, engineering, construction, or related services industry.
  • Strong experience in project execution and operational management.
  • Professional engineering registration or relevant industry certification will be an advantage.
  • Relevant professional memberships and certifications in engineering, project management, marine operations, or business management will be an advantage.
  • Exposure to international projects and multinational clients will be beneficial.

Act as the primary point of contact between the MD, project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and external clients. Assist in managing construction contracts, architectural plans, and regulatory compliance documents. Travel & Logistics Book flights, local transport (including cross-Lagos commutes to project sites), and hotel accommodations. Coordinate internal corporate events, groundbreakings, or client site tours. Financial & Expense Management Collect receipts, process expense reports, and manage petty cash or project-related expenditures. Manage procurement requests for office supplies or specific administrative requirements for the MD\'s office. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS A Bachelor\'s degree in Business Administration, Secretarial Studies, or a relevant discipline. Minimum of 3 - 5 years\' experience as a Personal Assistant or Executive Assistant, preferably in construction, interior design, real estate, or a related industry. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and digital office tools. Familiarity with construction terminology, permitting processes, and procurement cycles is highly advantageous. High integrity and ability to handle confidential and sensitive company data. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to make quick, independent decisions to resolve scheduling conflicts or project hiccups.
