Position Summary
PayZeep is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Legal & Compliance Officer to support the Company's legal, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, risk management, and financial crime compliance activities.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Legal & Compliance Manager and cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, internal policies, and industry best practices. This role is ideal for a legal professional with strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and a passion for supporting regulatory excellence within a fast-paced fintech environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the Company's legal, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance frameworks.
Provide day-to-day legal and compliance support to business units, ensuring alignment with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Assist in monitoring regulatory developments and identifying changes that may impact the Company's operations and compliance obligations.
Support the preparation and submission of regulatory filings, statutory reports, disclosures, and correspondence with relevant regulatory authorities.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance requirements are effectively embedded into business processes, products, and operational activities.
Review contracts, agreements, policies, and legal documentation and provide recommendations to mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
Support the maintenance of corporate records, regulatory documentation, licenses, and statutory registers.
Assist in conducting compliance monitoring activities, reviews, testing, and risk assessments across the business.
Identify potential compliance gaps and control weaknesses and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, responding to inquiries, and tracking remediation actions.
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF), Know Your Customer (KYC), sanctions screening, and financial crime compliance controls.
Review transaction monitoring alerts and support the investigation and escalation of suspicious or unusual activities.
Assist with the preparation and filing of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) and other regulatory reports in accordance with applicable requirements.
Support fraud prevention and detection activities by reviewing fraud cases, alerts, investigation outcomes, and effectiveness control.
Maintain accurate records of compliance reviews, investigations, regulatory communications, and monitoring activities.
Assist in conducting investigations into compliance breaches, regulatory violations, and ethical concerns, documenting findings and recommendations.
Contribute to the development and delivery of compliance training and awareness programs covering AML/CFT, anti-bribery and corruption, ethics, data privacy, and other regulatory requirements.
Promote a strong culture of compliance, integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct across the organization.
Prepare periodic compliance reports, dashboards, and management updates for review by the Legal & Compliance Manager and senior stakeholders.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support regulatory examinations, compliance projects, policy reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from a recognized institution.
Qualified Legal Practitioner and duly called to the Nigerian Bar.
Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in Legal, Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, Risk Management, Corporate Governance, or related functions within fintech, banking, financial services, or other regulated industries.
Working knowledge of financial services regulations, AML/CFT requirements, KYC obligations, data privacy requirements, and corporate governance principles.
Experience supporting regulatory engagements, compliance reviews, audits, and investigations.
Strong legal drafting, document review, and contract management skills.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail capabilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional certifications in Compliance, Regulatory Compliance, AML/CFT, Risk Management, or Corporate Governance.
