Summary

  • The General Ledger Accountant at PRL is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records through proper general ledger postings, balance sheet reconciliations, bank and revenue reconciliations, and financial data analysis.
  • The role ensures completeness, accuracy, and compliance in line with accounting standards and provides insights that support effective business and financial decision-making across the retail operations.

Key Responsibilities

Bank Reconciliations & Reporting:

  • Prepare and review daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations for all company accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciling items promptly to ensure accuracy of cash positions.
  • Maintain proper cashbook records and ensure timely posting of all banking transactions.
  • Prepare periodic bank reconciliation reports highlighting issues for management action.
  • Liaise with banking partners to resolve settlement, chargeback, and payment processing issues.

Revenue Reconciliation & Reporting:

  • Reconcile revenue from all retail stores and e-commerce channels to POS, bank deposits, and ERP records on a daily and monthly basis.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in sales reporting and settlement inflows.
  • Prepare monthly revenue performance reports with commentary on trends and exceptions.
  • Ensure accurate revenue recognition in line with company policy and accounting standards.

GL Postings & Balance Sheet Reconciliation:

  • Record and validate journal entries to ensure accounting accuracy and proper cost coding.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations across sub-ledgers (AP, AR, Payroll, Inventory, Fixed Assets).
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely production of financial reports.
  • Maintain an audit-ready general ledger with complete supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and internal accounting controls.

Financial Data Analysis & Support:

  • Conduct variance analysis on key P&L and balance sheet items to identify drivers and gaps.
  • Provide financial insights to support budgeting, forecasting, and commercial decision-making.
  • Assist in the preparation of management reports for the Finance Director and CEO.
  • Participate in internal and external audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor queries.
  • Recommend improvements to financial processes to improve accuracy, efficiency, and control.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Professional qualification (ICAN / ACCA) completed or in final stage required.
  • 4 - 5 years progressive accounting experience, ideally including general ledger or financial reporting responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial controls.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems (Sage, SAP, ZohoBooks, or similar).

Proven experience in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, and management accounts. Experience working with ERP and accounting systems is essential. Strong understanding of accounting principles and relevant regulatory requirements. Required Skills & Competencies: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP.
