The Fiber Field Engineer will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining fiber optic systems for residential and commercial customers (FTTH, Backbone, Fiber SME / Enterprise, Fiber P2P).
This role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions, performing splicing, and testing of fiber optic cables, and ensuring network integrity and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Installation and Service:
Install and configure fiber optic cables and related equipment according to specifications and safety standards.
Perform field surveys and assessments to determine installation requirements for fiber optics. (Network expansion, new SME / Enterprise P2P client survey)
Maintenance and Troubleshooting :
Troubleshoot and repair fiber optic networks and equipment issues, using a variety of testing equipment. (OTDR, Power Meter, VFL)
Conduct routine maintenance and inspections to ensure optimal network performance.
Splicing and Testing:
Perform fiber splicing and testing using fusion splicers and optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs).
Document and maintain accurate records of all installations, repairs, and maintenance activities. (Daily Report format)
Customer Interaction:
Communicate with customers to explain services, resolve issues, and provide information regarding fiber optic services.
Collaborate with team members to ensure customer satisfaction and timely service delivery.
Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while working in the field.
Maintain compliance with industry standards and company policies related to fiber optic installations and repairs.
Qualifications
HND, B.Tech, or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant field
Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
Key Requirements:
Solid understanding of electrical systems and networks
Knowledge of fiber optic telecommunication and data networks
Experience with setting up and testing fiber optic systems
Understanding of safety and compliance regulations.
