- We are seeking a skilled and detail-orientated fibre engineer to join our technical team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimisation of fibre optic infrastructure for both residential and corporate customers.
- This role requires hands-on experience with fibre deployment, splicing, testing, fault resolution, and customer support. The ideal candidate should be technically competent, safety-conscious, and capable of working independently in the field.
Fibre Installation and Deployment
- Install and terminate fibre optic cables for new customer connections.
- Perform fibre splicing using fusion splicers.
- Conduct Optical Network Terminal (ONT/ONU) installations and configurations.
- Install and mount equipment such as patch panels, splitters, and fibre distribution boxes.
- Ensure all installations meet company standards and quality requirements.
Testing and Troubleshooting
- Test fibre links using optical power meters, OTDRs, and light sources.
- Diagnose and resolve faults, including low optical power, fibre cuts, and equipment failures.
- Verify acceptable signal levels and network performance after installation.
- Escalate complex issues to senior engineers where necessary.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on fibre infrastructure.
- Repair damaged fibre routes and replace faulty components.
- Monitor and maintain network uptime and service quality.
Documentation and Reporting
- Complete installation and fault reports accurately.
- Update job status, materials used, and customer feedback.
- Maintain records of cable routes, splicing details, and test results.
- Submit daily activity reports to management.
- Explain installation timelines and equipment usage to customers.
- Ensure customer premises are left clean and orderly after work.
- Address customer concerns professionally.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Adhere to all safety procedures during field work.
- Properly use ladders, tools, PPE, and testing equipment.
- Ensure company assets are handled responsibly.
- OND, HND, or B.Sc. in electrical engineering, telecommunications, computer engineering, or any related discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in fibre optic installation and maintenance.
- Experience working with an ISP or telecommunications company is preferred.
- Fibre splicing and termination.
- OTDR and optical power meter testing.
- Understanding of GPON and FTTH networks.
- Router and ONU/ONT configuration.
- Basic IP networking knowledge.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail.
- A valid driver's licence is an advantage.
- Ability to work weekends and after hours when required.
