Our client, a leading co-educational secondary school in Nigeria, is seeking to appoint a strategic and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee the school's financial operations, ensure long-term financial stability, and drive sound financial management. The CFO will report directly to the CEO.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, manage, and oversee the school\'s fiscal affairs, including budget development, financial planning and reporting, payroll, and other financial management programs.
  • Responsible for overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of staff responsible for payroll, budget, finance, and accounting functions in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws.
  • Serve as a team member of the executive director's strategy team and participate in planning, development, and evaluation to support financial initiatives and processes.
  • Direct and provide leadership to assigned personnel, conduct performance appraisals, make recommendations for appropriate employment actions, and promote professional growth.
  • Advice and counsel the board concerning matters of finance, associated regulatory issues, and financial reporting requirements; and recommend necessary actions for the most efficient operation of the school's system.
  • Direct and oversee the annual budget preparation, including collection and dissemination of available data for budget development and resource allocation, and communication of budget information to the board and parent teacher associations.
  • Review and monitor financial accounting and reporting activities, including preparation and maintenance of financial reports.
  • Periodically develop and disseminate forecasts of expenditures versus budgetary allocations.
  • Coordinate work with auditors and oversee responses to and corrective actions of audit findings.
  • Ensure that financial initiatives are results-oriented and aligned with the board's mission, beliefs, and strategic goals; facilitate solutions and identify discrepancies between goals and current status; and provide support for continuous improvement objectives and strategies.
  • Maintain good public relations with parents, businesses, and community groups to provide information and receive feedback, and represent the school at functions as needed
  • Provide input in the development of policies and administrative guidelines for areas of responsibility and support the implementation of programmatic goals and objectives of the board.
  • Exercise proactive leadership in promoting the vision and mission of the school and empower others to make decisions and carry out responsibilities in support of the school's objectives.
  • Build synergistic partnerships among principals, parents, businesses, and other community stakeholders, and establish relationships with community leadership and stakeholders to build support for social programs.
  • Work with legal staff on personnel and other related matters as appropriate.
  • Serve with other educational leaders on work groups, committees, and project action teams that directly support the school.
  • Build organizational performance management tracking and measurement systems for successful strategy implementation to deliver improved performance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as CPA, CMA, ACCA, CFA, or equivalent.
  • Relevant financial management experience, with at least 8 to 10 years in a senior executive or managerial role.
  • Experience using enterprise-level ERP/Financial management systems. Experience with XERO is a plus.
  • Proven experience managing investor, banking, and board relationships.
  • Financial planning, analysis (FP&A), and strategic capital allocation.
  • Corporate governance, tax strategy, financial compliance, and risk management.
  • Executive team leadership, cross-functional strategy, and performance management.
