Job Description

  • We are hiring for the role of an Upholsterer. In this role, you will be responsible for producing high-quality upholstered furniture and products by assembling, padding, covering, and finishing items according to production specifications and quality standards.
  • You will play a key role in ensuring every finished product reflects the company's commitment to craftsmanship, durability, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Upholstery & Production:

  • Read and interpret production orders, drawings, and product specifications.
  • Measure, cut, and prepare fabrics, leather, foam, and other upholstery materials accurately.
  • Assemble furniture components and install webbing, springs, foam, padding, and upholstery materials.
  • Stretch, fit, and secure upholstery materials using appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Ensure all finished products meet established quality and design standards before release.

Quality Assurance:

  • Inspect completed work for defects, inconsistencies, or damage.
  • Repair or rework products that do not meet quality standards.
  • Minimize material waste by using upholstery materials efficiently.
  • Maintain consistency in workmanship across all assigned products.

Equipment & Workplace Safety:

  • Operate upholstery tools, machinery, and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition and report faults promptly.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and compliant with workplace health and safety regulations.
  • Adhere to all company policies, safety procedures, and production guidelines.

Productivity & Teamwork:

  • Meet daily and weekly production targets without compromising quality.
  • Collaborate effectively with supervisors and production team members to ensure timely completion of orders.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity and product quality.

Performance Expectations:

  • Consistently achieve daily and weekly production targets.
  • Maintain high product quality with minimal defects and rework.
  • Reduce material waste through efficient use of upholstery materials.
  • Demonstrate compliance with workplace safety standards and company procedures.
  • Contribute positively to team productivity and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or equivalent.
  • Vocational training or certification in upholstery, furniture making, or a related trade is an added advantage.
  • At least 2 years of experience as an upholsterer in a furniture manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of upholstery techniques, materials, and furniture construction.
  • Ability to accurately measure, cut, and fit upholstery materials.
  • Proficiency in using upholstery hand tools and machinery.
  • Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
  • Good communication skills and a strong commitment to quality and safety.

Qualifications & Requirements Minimum of SSCE/WAEC/NECO, NABTEB, Trade Test, or Technical College qualification. Minimum of 3 years' practical experience as an Upholsterer, preferably in automobile manufacturing, vehicle bodywork, engineering, or a related industry. Strong practical knowledge of engineering and automobile manufacturing processes is required. Good knowledge of vehicle interior components and upholstery techniques. Ability to read and understand basic engineering drawings, measurements, and specifications. Ability to use upholstery tools, sewing machines, cutting equipment, and related workshop tools.
