Key Responsibilities
Commercial Strategy & Leadership:
- Lead commercial functions across projects, ensuring alignment with financial objectives.
- Advise executive leadership on pricing, contract structuring, and risk positioning.
- Drive continuous improvement in commercial processes and governance.
- Provide independent, data-driven insights to senior stakeholders.
Contract & Financial Management:
- Manage the full commercial lifecycle: bids, tendering, negotiation, execution, and close-out.
- Lead complex contract negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Oversee claims, variations, and dispute resolution.
- Validate project budgets, forecasts, and P&L models.
Cost & Profitability Control:
- Implement rigorous cost control frameworks.
- Optimize margins through value engineering and procurement strategies.
- Monitor financial performance and mitigate risks.
- Deliver timely financial reporting and analysis.
Bidding & Business Development:
- Lead techno-commercial bid preparation and pricing strategies.
- Oversee vendor and subcontractor prequalification.
- Support business development with feasibility and opportunity analysis.
Risk Management & Governance:
- Identify and mitigate commercial risks.
- Ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and governance standards.
- Maintain audit readiness and documentation best practices.
- Build strong relationships with clients, partners, and suppliers.
- Influence cross-functional teams to achieve commercial outcomes.
- Mentor and develop QS/commercial team members.
Procurement & Supply Chain Leadership:
- Define and implement procurement strategies for efficiency and reliability.
- Lead supplier selection, framework agreements, and bulk purchasing.
- Manage supplier performance and development.
- Drive cost savings through strategic negotiations.
- Report hazards or incidents within 24 hours.
- Ensure 100% participation in occupational health and safety programs.
- Adhere to safe work procedures daily.
Key Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related field.
- Master's degree (MBA/MSc) preferred.
- Professional membership: QSRBN (mandatory), NIQS, RICS (MRICS/FRICS), CIOB, or equivalent.
- Additional certifications (NEC, FIDIC, CIPS) are an advantage.
- 12 - 18 years in commercial management/quantity surveying within construction, infrastructure, or engineering.
- 5 - 7 years in senior leadership with P&L accountability.
- Proven success managing large, complex, multi-million-dollar projects.
- Delivering 25%+ profit margins.
- Leading end-to-end commercial lifecycle.
- Negotiating high-value contracts.
- Driving cost optimisation and value engineering.
- Managing claims, disputes, and variations.
