  • Within Oil & Gas projects in Nigeria, the Lifting Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all lifting operations on site, both onshore and offshore.
  • The role ensures full compliance with HSE requirements, project specifications, and international lifting standards while operating in a high-risk environment.

Job Responsibilities

The position we are offering involves the following main responsibilities:

Supervision & Coordination:

  • Supervise and coordinate all lifting operations on site (onshore and offshore),
  • Act as the focal point between construction teams, methods engineering, HSE, and project management,
  • Coordinate lifting activities with other disciplines and contractors on site.

Engineering & Preparation:

  • Develop and review lifting plans in close cooperation with the methods and preparation teams;
  • Define and validate lifting procedures in accordance with Oil & Gas project constraints;
  • Select and approve appropriate lifting equipment and technical means (cranes, rigging gear, accessories).

HSE & Compliance:

  • Ensure full compliance with HSE policies, local Nigerian regulations, and international standards (API, ISO, LOLER, etc.);
  • Perform risk assessments and Job Safety Analyses (JSA) for lifting operations;
  • Lead toolbox talks and actively participate in site safety meetings.

Team Management:

  • Supervise, train, and mentor lifting personnel (crane operators, riggers, banksmen);
  • Ensure personnel competency, valid certifications, and compliance with training requirements.

Inspection & Maintenance:

  • Carry out regular inspections of lifting equipment and lifting accessories;
  • Ensure lifting equipment certification and maintenance records are up to date;
  • Prepare and issue incident, inspection, and maintenance reports.

Operational Follow-Up:

  • Plan and schedule lifting operations in line with project timelines;
  • Manage unforeseen situations and resolve technical issues related to lifting activities;
  • Optimize the use of human and material resources throughout project execution.

Communication & Reporting:

  • Maintain effective communication with clients, vendors, and subcontractors ;
  • Provide regular activity and progress reports to project management.

Required Profile

  • You have a proven experience as a Lifting Supervisor in Oil & Gas projects,
  • Also a strong background in both onshore and offshore operations,
  • You have an excellent knowledge of heavy and complex lifting operations,
  • Also a strong HSE culture and safety leadership,
  • A professional level of English is require for international projects.

Monitor critical safety instruments such as Load Moment Indicators (LMI), wind speed anemometers, and anti-collision systems. Log inspection results daily and immediately isolate (lockout/tagout) and report any mechanical or electrical faults to the maintenance team. Environmental & Load Monitoring: Accurately calculate crane capacities and weight factors before initiating any lift to ensure parameters never exceed safe working loads (SWL). Continuously evaluate weather conditions, particularly wind speeds and visibility, and shut down operations immediately if thresholds violate safety limits. HSE Compliance & Documentation: Strictly adhere to site-specific Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) rules, Permitted Work systems (PTW), and industrial oil & gas safety codes. Participate in daily toolbox talks, safety meetings, and Job Safety Analyses (JSA) prior to critical or complex lifts. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Zero Incidents: Maintain a 100% accident-free, injury-free, and damage-free lifting record. Equipment Uptime: Ensuring routine daily checks prevent unnecessary machine breakdown delays. Precision and Speed: Completing planned lifts within the specified construction timeline without compromising safety margins. Job Requirements & Qualifications Experience & Licensing: Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma, Technical School graduate, or equivalent vocational training. Certification: Valid, industry-recognized Crane Operator License (e.g., NCCO, CITB, or equivalent local regulatory certificate). Experience: Minimum of 5 years of active experience operating tower cranes, with at least 2 - 3 years specifically in large-scale oil & gas infrastructure projects or heavy industrial construction sites. Technical Skills: Complete mastery of crane hand signals, rigging configurations, and load chart interpretations. Extensive experience reading and working with electronic safety indicators (LMI systems). Thorough understanding of structural steel erection, heavy piping installation, and concrete pouring logistics. Physical & Soft Skills: Excellent depth perception, spatial awareness, and manual dexterity. Absolute comfort working at extreme heights for prolonged periods. Calm under pressure; ability to make sharp, safe judgments during high-risk maneuvers. Working Conditions: This position involves working at high elevations inside a crane cabin. The operator will be exposed to varied outdoor weather conditions (heat, wind, rain) typical of heavy industrial zones and marine shipyards.
