Main Function

  • The Laundry Attendant is responsible for the efficient processing, cleaning, pressing, folding, sorting, and distribution of hotel linen, guest garments, staff uniforms, towels, table linen, curtains, and other fabric items in accordance with the hotel's luxury hospitality standards.
  • The role ensures that all laundry operations are carried out professionally, hygienically, and within the established turnaround times while maintaining the quality, appearance, and longevity of all linen and garments.
  • The Laundry Attendant plays a vital role in supporting guest satisfaction by ensuring that clean, fresh, and well-presented linen and garments are consistently available for guests and operational departments.
  • The role also contributes to effective inventory management, cost control, equipment care, and compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

Role Responsibilities

Laundry Processing:

  • Sort, classify, and process soiled linen, towels, uniforms, guest garments, and other laundry items according to fabric type, colour, and washing requirements.
  • Operate washing machines, dryers, extractors, ironing equipment, steam presses, folding machines, and other laundry equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Wash, rinse, dry, iron, press, fold, and package laundry items according to hotel standards.
  • Apply appropriate washing cycles, detergents, chemicals, and fabric care procedures for different types of materials.
  • Ensure all laundry is processed within the hotel's established turnaround times.
  • Handle delicate fabrics, specialty garments, and luxury linen with extra care.
  • Remove stains using approved stain-removal techniques and chemicals.

Guest Laundry Services:

  • Process guest laundry, dry cleaning, and pressing requests accurately and confidentially.
  • Follow guest instructions regarding washing, ironing, and garment care.
  • Inspect guest garments before and after laundering to identify stains, damages, missing items, or special handling requirements.
  • Package and prepare guest laundry neatly for timely delivery.
  • Report damaged garments or unusual findings to the Laundry Supervisor immediately.
  • Ensure guest laundry records are accurate and complete.

Linen & Uniform Management:

  • Sort and organize hotel linen, towels, bed sheets, pillowcases, duvets, blankets, tablecloths, napkins, and staff uniforms.
  • Assist in issuing clean linen and uniforms to Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Spa, Gym, Engineering, and other operational departments.
  • Collect soiled linen and uniforms from designated collection points.
  • Ensure linen is properly folded, counted, and stored.
  • Report damaged, stained, torn, or worn-out linen to the Laundry Supervisor.
  • Support periodic linen and uniform inventory counts.

Quality Assurance:

  • Inspect all laundry items after processing to ensure they are clean, stain-free, well-pressed, and meet hotel quality standards.
  • Rewash or reprocess laundry items that do not meet quality requirements.
  • Ensure garments and linen are free from wrinkles, odours, and visible defects before distribution.
  • Maintain consistency in presentation and finishing of all laundry items.
  • Ensure proper packaging and labeling of guest laundry.

Laundry Equipment Operation & Maintenance:

  • Operate all laundry equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions and hotel procedures.
  • Conduct basic daily cleaning of washing machines, dryers, presses, folding machines, and work areas.
  • Report equipment faults, breakdowns, or maintenance needs promptly to the Laundry Supervisor.
  • Handle laundry equipment carefully to prevent damage.
  • Ensure workstations remain clean, organized, and safe throughout each shift.
  • Inventory & Cost Control
  • Use detergents, chemicals, fabric softeners, and other laundry supplies responsibly to minimize waste.
  • Assist in monitoring the consumption of laundry chemicals and consumables.
  • Report shortages of chemicals, cleaning agents, and operational supplies.
  • Support efforts to reduce linen loss, wastage, and unnecessary replacement.
  • Handle hotel property carefully to prolong the lifespan of linen and uniforms.
  • Participate in regular stock counts of linen, uniforms, and laundry supplies as directed.

Health, Safety & Hygiene:

  • Comply with all hotel health, safety, hygiene, and environmental policies.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when handling chemicals and operating machinery.
  • Handle detergents and chemicals safely in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the laundry facility at all times.
  • Report accidents, unsafe conditions, and equipment hazards immediately.
  • Follow proper infection prevention and laundry sanitation procedures.

Coordination & Communication:

  • Work closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage, Spa, Gym, Engineering, and other departments to meet linen requirements.
  • Communicate operational challenges and guest requests promptly to the Laundry Supervisor.
  • Respond professionally to requests from internal departments.
  • Support teamwork and maintain effective communication with colleagues.

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of guest laundry transactions where assigned.
  • Record daily laundry production and completed work.
  • Report damaged linen, missing items, equipment issues, and supply shortages.
  • Assist in maintaining laundry logs and operational records.
  • Complete assigned checklists and documentation accurately.

Compliance & Continuous Improvement:

  • Comply with hotel policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and luxury service standards.
  • Participate in training programmes and departmental meetings.
  • Follow quality assurance procedures for all laundry operations.
  • Suggest practical improvements to laundry processes and operational efficiency.
  • Support sustainability initiatives, including water conservation, energy efficiency, and responsible use of detergents and chemicals.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • SSCE or equivalent. Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of laundry experience, preferably in a hotel or commercial laundry setting.

Qualifications and Requirements Education and Certifications: SSCE / OND in any field; certification in laundry/textile care is an advantage.
