Carries out daily verification and calibration of all equipment before starting daily activities in the PHC laboratory
Handles and supervises daily activities with special focus on Microbiology
Provides procedures and appropriate training for new equipment and reagents.
Manages Quality control and Maintenance in close partnership with the Bio-Med Technicians and the Quality Officers
Provides Technical and Administrative Guidance to all Lab Scientists
Ensures that the laboratory and all Lab Scientists are registered with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria
Manages safe and confidential registration of patients and documentation of Lab results
Ensures that all equipment is connected to Biowin Software and regularly updated
Validates all results before dispatch to the requesting practitioners
Archives daily all laboratory results and data
Manages supply orders from France while sourcing local suppliers
Manages the entire procurement process from PR to GR 105 issuances within the budget limit
Ensures permanent availability of Lab supplies while discouraging wastage
Optimizes and maintains effective stock management and encourages the exchange of stock with DW Laboratory
Ensures that materials comply with NAFDAC requirements.
Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all reagents should be provided to permit delivery
Pays special attention to perishable reagents that should be received the same day and stored in optimum condition
Generates a monthly report of the laboratory activities to the Medical Officer, Port Harcourt District, and to the SMO Lagos
Ensures the correct implementation of Laboratory and HSE programs in the company clinics.
Context and Environment:
This position requires great interpersonal skills and works in close partnership with the GPs, Consultant Specialists, OH manager, Pharmacists, Head of Emergency and Field support Nursing Manager, SMOs, Bio-med Technicians, Quality Officers, and CMO.
The position interacts with external bodies like external laboratories in Port Harcourt and Lagos (Clina Lancet and Pathcare), suppliers (Tedis), NAFDAC representatives, and the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria.
Difficulties can arise from a delay in the supply of Laboratory reagents and occasional equipment breakdown.
Accountabilities
Ensures Laboratory activities are conducted safely, diligently, and in accordance with COMPANY HSE Policies, WHO Standard on Laboratory Safety, and National Health Authority regulations
Reports to the Medical Officer - PHC District any incident, unsafe act, or operation
Ensures a high level of professional skills and competencies in the COMPANY laboratories
Updates knowledge of modern Medical equipment and methods
HSE Objectives:
Familiarize oneself with COMPANY emergency procedures and report to the Manager any incident, unsafe act, or operation
Carries out assigned duties safely according to COMPANY HSE procedures in such a manner as to minimize/eliminate unsafe exposure to self or fellow workers.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Lab Science (Biochemistry, Biology)
Management skills, including procurement and budget
Good Knowledge of Biowin, Prolablis software, and/or any related LAB software and SAP
At least 15 years of related experience, 5 of which must have been at the management level.
