About CENSCOPE

The Centre for Social Cohesion, Peace and Empowerment (CENSCOPE) is a national non-profit organization duly registered with Nigeria's Corporate Affairs Commission. Established in 2018 and headquartered in Maiduguri, Borno State, CENSCOPE was founded in response to the humanitarian crisis resulting from armed conflict and natural disasters.

CENSCOPE is committed to promoting self-sustainability, equality, and social justice, with programmatic focus on peacebuilding, social cohesion, protection, gender equality and inclusion, livelihoods, education, WASH, climate change, health, and nutrition. The organization works in partnership with national and international stakeholders, including UN agencies and international non-governmental organizations, to deliver principled humanitarian assistance and support long-term development outcomes.

With Malala Fund support, it is running a three-year project to advance Gender-Responsive Education Budgeting (GREB) in Borno State; securing budget lines for the re-entry and retention of married, pregnant and parenting girls in education.

Role purpose

To lead community mobilisation, social-norms engagement and coalition-building; serving as the bridge between CENSCOPE, communities, traditional and religious leaders, and government stakeholders in support of the project's advocacy for girls' re-entry financing.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead stakeholder mapping across state institutions and conduct listening and learning meetings with decision-makers.
  • Drive community sensitisation with traditional and religious leaders across the seven target LGAs; identify and support community champions.
  • Coordinate the multi-stakeholder GREB coalition toward a signed MoU and quarterly coordination meetings.
  • Support the recruitment and training of community budget monitors (young women) in the monitoring phase.
  • Apply ethical storytelling and survivor-centred communication in all community engagement.

Qualification & Specification

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences, development studies, communications or a related field.
  • At least 3 years' experience in community mobilization or advocacy in conflict-affected Northeast Nigeria.
  • Strong networks with government, traditional and religious stakeholders in Borno State.
  • Fluency in Hausa and Kanuri; working proficiency in English.

Desirable

  • Experience in girls' education, gender, or budget/policy advocacy.
  • Coalition-building and multi-stakeholder facilitation experience.
