Responsibilities

  • Supervise Repair & Maintenance and Maintenance & Operation, assuming full responsibilities in the Chief Engineer's absence.
  • Ensure prompt resolution of building, plant, and equipment defects, particularly those affecting guest comfort, and report major breakdowns to the Chief Engineer.
  • Oversee plant operations, including logging essential readings and maintaining adequate supplies of consumables, services, materials, and fuels.
  • Manage engineering staff, including supervision, duty roster preparation, training, and addressing misconduct or grievances.
  • Maintain high cleanliness standards in all areas not under Housekeeping's direct responsibility.
  • Assist in departmental planning, improvement, and budget review.
  • Implement and monitor safety protocols, including fire safety, accident reporting, and equipment safety checks.
  • Coordinate and supervise preventive maintenance, routine maintenance, and energy conservation measures.
  • Manage service requests, ensuring timely completion and follow-up.
  • Oversee outside contracts, including obtaining quotations and supervising work quality.
  • Implement and supervise capital works projects as instructed by the Chief Engineer, maintaining accurate cost records.
  • Ensure availability of spare parts for equipment in the Engineering store.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and records of all maintenance activities, equipment servicing, and engineering operations in compliance with hotel standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations and equipment failures, coordinating immediate remedial action and liaising with relevant departments to minimise operational disruption.
  • Develop and deliver training programmes for engineering staff to enhance technical competencies, safety awareness, and adherence to operational procedures.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and maintenance metrics to support continuous improvement initiatives and operational efficiency.
  • Liaise with external contractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with local building codes, health and safety legislation, and environmental standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in hotel engineering, facilities management, or construction works
  • Strong technical knowledge of high-standard building systems, equipment, and infrastructure
  • Proven leadership and team management skills with the ability to supervise and motivate maintenance teams
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities with strong attention to detail
  • Solid organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and manage emergency situations with composure and efficiency
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus
  • Knowledge of fire safety systems, electrical systems, and preventive maintenance best practices
  • Experience coordinating with external contractors and vendors
  • Familiarity with budget awareness and cost management principles
  • Commitment to safety compliance and adherence to industry standards
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and support colleagues with an inclusive and empathetic approach
