We are seeking an experienced Agricultural Extension Officer to support the implementation of programs within the soybean and maize value chains.
The successful candidate will drive farmer onboarding, training, and adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Regenerative Agriculture techniques across outgrower networks.
The role will also support seed multiplication programs, sustainability initiatives, farmer data management, and collaboration with the Procurement team to facilitate efficient produce aggregation and offtake.
Key Responsibilities
Recruit, onboard, and manage smallholder farmers participating in outgrower programs.
Deliver training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), regenerative agriculture, soil health improvement, irrigation efficiency, residue management, biodiversity conservation, and post-harvest loss reduction.
Implement and monitor soybean and maize seed multiplication programs, including sowing, field management, and harvesting activities.
Utilize the Training of Trainers (ToT) approach by identifying and developing model farmers who can transfer knowledge across farming communities.
Conduct regular farm visits to monitor compliance with recommended agronomic practices and provide technical support.
Coordinate farmer geo-location mapping and maintain accurate farmer databases.
Collect, analyze, and report sustainability and field performance metrics.
Work closely with the Procurement team to support effective produce aggregation and procurement from participating farmers.
Build strong relationships with farmer groups, cooperatives, implementing partners, and other key stakeholders.
Prepare timely field reports, project updates, and monitoring documentation.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or HND in Agricultural Extension, Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 4-5 years' experience in agricultural extension, agronomy, sustainability programs, or value chain development.
Demonstrated experience within the soybean and/or maize value chain.
Proven experience driving adoption of sustainable agriculture and regenerative farming practices among smallholder farmers.
