Are Journey milestones just checklist items, or do they connect to real features?

Some milestones are wired to actual product features rather than being decorative checklist items, including activities tracking, a Stories pulse check, an actual probation review, or a manager checkpoint. Completing that kind of milestone means something real is happening elsewhere in the product.
