Responsibilities

  • The Vice President, Internal Audit will have a dual reporting role, functionally and directly to the Board of Directors and administratively to the CEO.
  • The VP will be responsible for providing strong leadership and vision, as well as management, planning and execution of all global internal audit activities for Arnergy.
  • These activities align around three major themes:
  • Evaluating processes and controls over financial, operational, IT and technical functions.
  • Monitoring of compliance with certain contractual arrangements and regulations.
  • Consulting with teams on financial and other process efficiency initiatives.

Controls Evaluation:

  • Provide vision and direction regarding Arnergy's' global internal audit plan, including recurring and special audit work.
  • Conduct annual and ongoing risk assessments in order to develop a responsive audit plan.
  • Present the annual audit plan and any updates to senior management for buy-in, review audit plan with BOD for approval and funding.
  • Organize and manage audit resources, including co-sourcing partners.
  • Monitor audit plan execution and regularly report progress and results to Executive Management and BOD.
  • Provide value added solutions to identified control deficiencies and process inefficiencies; assist in implementation wherever possible.
  • Support and coordinate with external auditors related to financial statement audit.

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Identify and assess potential areas of compliance vulnerability via annual risk assessment and leveraging output from ER function.
  • Plan and direct periodic internal reviews or audits to ensure compliance with policies /procedures, contractual terms and regulations.
  • Where practical, facilitate development of continuous monitoring capabilities for high risk processes.
  • Provide guidance to the Executive management team on matters relating to compliance, corrective action plans and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Promote a high level of ethical awareness and conduct within Arnergy in support of the Company's Code of Business Conduct.
  • Evaluate business practices, policies, procedures and controls to ensure they are being consistently upheld throughout the organization in accordance with Arnergy principles, values, and mission.
  • Guide the development, initiation, maintenance and revision of policies and procedures to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct.
  • As circumstances warrant, oversee special investigations, risk advisory work, management requests and other ad-hoc projects.

Departmental Management:

  • Motivate and train high performing staff. Conduct performance evaluations of staff, initiating follow through with disciplinary action and termination in consultation with Human Resources, when appropriate.
  • Mentor, motivate, and develop staff and serve as a resource to them in order to facilitate their professional development.
  • Lead the development of team goals and objectives and the plans necessary to achieve the internal audit plan.
  • Develop budget for the department. Routinely monitor, manage and control budget, analyzing variances and taking appropriate action, where necessary.
  • Develop plans for continued efficiency and productivity improvements.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals and other literature and attending related conferences, seminars, and roundtables.

Requirements & Skills

You'll be a good fit for this role if you have experience with:

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in Internal Audit, Governance, or Risk Consulting, with at least five years in a senior leadership role managing a global internal audit function.
  • Master's degree (M.Sc./MBA) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a reputable institution.
  • Possesses a relevant, current professional certification (e.g., Certified Internal Auditor [CIA], Certified Public Accountant [CPA], or ACCA).
  • Deep operational and financial controls understanding within the utility, energy, or project finance sectors.
  • Proven expertise in global corporate governance and regulatory frameworks
  • Experience in high-growth, multinational organizations, including scaling the control environment during periods of significant equity and debt investment.

We'd also like to see:

  • Unquestionable ethical commitment, maintaining independence and objectivity when assessing executive operations and controls.
  • Advanced knowledge of IT audit frameworks (e.g., COBIT) and demonstrated ability to leverage data analytics for Continuous Auditing/Monitoring (CA/CM).
  • Expert ability to conduct detailed, enterprise-wide risk assessments and translate complex risks (financial, operational, compliance) into actionable, strategic audit plans.
  • Exceptional proficiency in communicating sensitive audit findings, strategic risks, and comprehensive recommendations to the Board of Directors and Executive Management.
  • Proven ability to build, mentor, motivate, and lead a high-performing, geographically diverse audit staff.
  • Strategic thinker, entrepreneurial spirit, and collaborative nature while maintaining uncompromising attention to detail and accuracy.
