Job Description
- We are seeking an experienced, young, dynamic, and proactive Mud logging Operations Manager, based in Port Harcourt, to oversee and drive operational success across all mud logging contracts.
Role Overview
- The Mud logging Operations Manager leads the execution, supervision, and continuous improvement of the company's mud logging operations.
- The role ensures optimal performance across rigs, high-quality data delivery, safe execution, and excellent client satisfaction.
- This individual will manage field teams, maintain operational readiness, enforce quality standards, and act as the company's operational face to IOC clients.
- This position requires a strategic yet hands-on leader with strong operational discipline, deep technical understanding, and the ability to uphold the company's culture across distributed teams.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management:
- Lead full-cycle operational oversight for all mudlogging projects.
- Manage mobilization, logistics, equipment deployment, and maintenance.
- Ensure operational readiness, procedural compliance, and accurate reporting standards.
- Monitor rig performance, sample workflows, gas detection accuracy, and real-time data quality.
- Conduct operational audits and drive continuous improvements across rigs.
Team Leadership & Performance:
- Supervise Mudloggers, Data Engineers, and wellsite teams.
- Build a performance-driven culture grounded in Stelog's G.E.R.M.S values.
- Train, mentor, evaluate, and discipline field personnel as required.
- Promote teamwork, humility, safety-consciousness, and operational excellence.
Client Relationship Management:
- Serve as the primary operational representative to IOC clients.
- Attend daily operations meetings, WELL planning sessions, and after-action reviews.
- Address concerns swiftly, implement corrective actions, and maintain strong client trust.
- Communicate operational updates with clarity and professionalism.
Quality, Safety & Compliance:
- Enforce strict adherence to HSE, OEM standards, and industry guidelines.
- Ensure proper calibration, certification, and maintenance of all mudlogging equipment.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and data anomalies; implement preventive measures.
- Maintain documentation and compliance records for internal and client audits.
Strategic & Administrative Duties:
- Contribute operational insight to tendering, bidding, and contract renewal processes.
- Manage operational budgets, resource planning, and cost optimisations.
- Track operational KPIs and generate management-level performance reports.
- Support modernization initiatives, including equipment upgrades and process redesign.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- BSc in Geology, Petroleum Engineering, Earth Sciences, or similar discipline.
- Minimum of 8+ years of mudlogging, wellsite geology, or related drilling operations experience.
- Proven experience supervising multiple rigs or managing mudlogging crews.
- Strong technical expertise in drilling processes, formation evaluation, gas systems, and well control indicators.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict management skills.
- A proactive, solution-oriented operator with strong integrity and emotional maturity.
- Ability to work under pressure, coordinate multiple moving parts, and maintain high standards.
