    Summary

    • The Audit Intern’s position is an opportunity offered by ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) for young graduates to earn a post NYSC experience. It is therefore both a learning and value-adding relationship between interns and AAN. The intern is expected to take advantage of the space offered for experience gathering, self-development, while providing quality service to ActionAid Nigeria
    Job Purpose:
    • To assist the Internal Auditor in ensuring the system of internal control is adequate to achieve management objectives in an efficient and effective manner, established procedures are being properly followed, assets are safeguarded and that resources are judiciously utilized.

    Specific Responsibilities

    • To assist the Internal Auditor to review the statutory accounts and ancillary records (cash and bank, payroll, creditors and accruals, debtors and prepayments, imprests, floats and petty cash etc.)
    • Support audits of Local Implementing partners (LRP partners) and ActionAid Nigeria funded programmes/projects and suggest workable recommendations for improvement
    • To conduct physical verification of all tangible assets of the organisation and identify their locations
    • To pay regular visits to programme areas and partners to ensure that procedures and guidelines specified in the Policy documents are properly adhered to and provide positive recommendations for improvement
    • Write draft report on audit undertaken and submit both report and working papers to the Internal Auditor
    • Contribute to unit’s quarterly reports on activities performed
    • Assist the Internal Auditor on follow-up on both Internal and External audit recommendations.
    • Other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Internal Auditor.

    • Internal Auditor and AAN team.
    External Relationships:
    • Partners & other stakeholders.

    Education/Qualifications Essential:

    • First degree in Accounting.

    Desirable:

    • Student Membership of ICAN.
    Experience
    Essential:
    • At least 1-year post NYSC experience in Auditing or Accounting
    • Excellent working knowledge of Excel, Word & Outlook (MS Office in general) & experience in handling cash.

    Skill Abilities
    Essential:

    • Fluency in spoken and written English language
    • Highly numerate
    • Excellent planning and prioritization skills
    • Excellent (proven) interpersonal and both oral and written communication skills
    • Report writing skill
    Desirable:
    • Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
    • Multi-tasking skills
    • Negotiation skills

    Personal Qualities
    Essential:

    • Creative and takes initiative.
    • Able to work effectively in a diverse team environment
    • Willing to work additional hours at crucial times.
    • Should be willing to travel widely & at short notice
    • Team player

    Desirable:

    • Self motivated person able to work with minimum supervision
    • Ability to relate with AAN’s mission values, and objectives
