• Disc Jockey Job Description

    A disk jockey also known as a DJ is someone whose job is to select and play recorded music for a live or radio audience. There are three main types of disc jockeys: radio disc jockeys, club disc jockeys, and mobile disc jockeys. Radio disc jockeys introduce and play music for a radio audience. Club disc jockeys select and play music for a dance audience. Mobile disc jockeys provide musical entertainment at a variety of events such as weddings and birthdays.

    A disc jockey should be well organized, enthusiastic, diligent, confident, friendly, cheerful, charismatic and technically minded, and have a good speaking voice and the ability to speak for long periods of time. They should also be self-learning, perceptive and able relate to their audience and read their moods.

  • Working Conditions

    Disc jockeys may work long or unsocial hours including evenings, late nights and weekends. They work in radio studios, bars, restaurants, hotels, halls and nightclubs. They may work in hot, noisy and uncomfortable environments.

    There are no formal educational requirements to become a disk jockey, as employers are not concerned with your academic qualification, but rather on your deejaying skills.
