• Bartender Job Description

    A bartender is a person who prepares and serves drinks to customers in a bar. Their job also involves maintaining the cleanliness of the bar area, maintaining the bar supplies and inventory, and collecting payments for drinks and operating the cash register.

    A bartender should be quick, friendly, polite, honest, confident and careful, and have the ability to make fast and accurate calculations and figure out change. They should have good memory to remember memorized drink recipes and the favorite drinks of regular customers. They should also be very knowledgeable about the drinks they serve to make sincere recommendations to customers.

    Bartenders may do some or all of the following:

    • clean and tidy the bar area
    • check customers' identification for proof of legal drinking age
    • prepare and serve drinks
    • collect and wash glasses
    • collect payment and operate the cash register
    • ensure that customers do not drink too much
    • orders and maintains liquor and bar supplies

    Bartenders usually work indoors in pubs, hotels, restaurants and clubs. They are usually required to work evenings and weekends. Their job may involve working in hot or noisy conditions and dealing with drunk persons.
