Cabin Steward Job Description

A cabin steward is a person who is employed on a ship to clean and service passenger rooms. Cabin stewards attend to passengers on a ship and help them tidy up their rooms. Their job is similar to that of hotel maids, as they are both are responsible for cleaning and maintaining guest rooms.

A cabin steward should be polite, friendly, diligent, flexible, trustworthy and helpful, and have the ability to carefully follow instructions. They should be able to stand or bend for long periods and work with their hands to manipulate, lift and carry heavy objects.

What does a Cabin Steward do?

Cabin stewards may do some or all of the following:

Working Conditions

Cabin stewards work onboard a ship. They usually work 7 days a week on shifts. Their job involves cleaning and arranging staterooms which can sometimes be very dirty and messed up. They may be required to wear uniforms and put on protective gloves to do their job.

What is Required to Become a Cabin Steward?

There are no educational requirements to become a ship steward, as skills are learnt on the job.
