Cleaner Job Description

A cleaner is a person whose occupation is cleaning. Cleaners usually work with their hands, using a variety of cleaning techniques, chemicals and equipment to clean private homes, medical facilities, schools, Airports, or factories.

A cleaner should be patient, diligent, flexible, trustworthy, helpful and loyal, and have the ability to carefully follow instructions. They should be able to stand or bend for long periods and work with their hands to manipulate, lift and carry heavy objects.

Cleaners may do some or all of the following:

Working Conditions

Some cleaners work during the day such as those who clean schools and hospitals while others may work irregular hours including early mornings, evenings and weekends, and may be on call.

Cleaners work indoors, cleaning the interior of buildings, and outdoors sweeping walkways and shoveling snow. They may work in conditions that are dirty or unpleasant and their work will require physical stamina to stand for long periods, bending and lifting objects.

What is Required to Become a Cleaner?

There are no educational requirements to become a cleaner, as skills are gained on the job under the supervision of more experience cleaners.
