Electrician Job Description

An electrician is person who is licensed to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring or electrical devices. Their job involves installing and maintaining electrical systems, and ensuring that electrical components are correctly fitted and connected. Electricians are also known as wiremen, linemen, gaffers, journeymen electricians, lighting technicians, electrical fitters, or electrical contractors.

An electrician should be analytical, practical, technical, principled, reliable and safety-couscous, and have the ability to read electrical wiring diagrams and perform electrical fault findings, repairs and maintenance. They should also have physical fitness and the ability to work with their hands.

To become an electrician, you will need to complete an electrical company training program or an apprenticeship with a skilled and professional electrician. An electrician apprenticeship program may take up to 4 years to complete. After the apprenticeship, you will become an experienced journeyman. In most parts of the world, electricians are required to be licensed to practice.
