Fine Artist Job Description

A fine artist is a person who creates beautiful objects such as paintings, sculptures or drawings. A fine artist creates art for the art’s own sake, and not for its usefulness.

A fine artist should be enthusiastic, perceptive, imaginative, creative, expressive and self-motivated, and have a natural ability to draw, paint or sculpt. They should have networking skills and strong business acumen to promote and market their artworks, if they are self employed.

Pursue a career in fine art if you are creative and expressive, and can work with your hands to create beautiful things that are original to yourself.

Most fine artists work on a freelance basis and set their own working hours. They work in art workshops/studios, at home or anywhere they feel relaxed to work. They may travel to attend art exhibitions, conferences or seminars.

What is Required to Become a Fine Artist?

There are no educational requirements to become a fine artist, as all you’ll need is artistic talent, but getting a formal education in fine art is very helpful. To teach fine art in schools, you will need to have a bachelor’s degree in fine art or a similar discipline.
